Knowing a bit about a dog before bringing him home can really help the romance last. How do we know this? The Meet Your Match (MYM) Canine-ality Adoption Program, our new color coding method for matching shelter dogs, ages six months and older, with adopters, is making it possible for you to know a little about a dog’s behavior before deciding to make him a part of your family. Finding the perfect pooch is a serious undertaking. That’s why we developed the MYM program—to help match the colors of your personality to your new friend’s canine-ality.
Every dog has a colorful canine-ality. Every person has a colorful person-ality. The Canine-ality Adoption Program reveals both a dog’s and an adopter’s true colors so that you can make a more informed choice about the pooch you bring home. Here’s how:
The Canine-ality Assessment: This assessment takes some of the mystery out of the selection process by evaluating a pooch’s friendliness and sociability, playfulness, energy level and ability to focus, motivation (food, people, toys, internal motivations, etc.), and “people manners”
Once they’ve been assessed......
What Is Puppy-ality™?Eeeny, meeny, miney, moe… No, that’s not how we recommend that new puppy parents pick their perfect pooch! But we do know how hard it is choose a puppy who’ll be compatible with your lifestyle—and even professionals agree that it’s difficult to predict how puppies less than six months old will behave with their new families. That’s why we are using ASPCA's Meet Your Match Puppy-ality Adoption Program (MYM), a fun color-coding method that sets adopters up for success from the moment they get their puppy home.
If people have distinct personalities, then puppies have distinct puppy-alities! The Puppy-ality Adoption program helps you figure out what your true colors are so you can choose a pup whose personality best fits with yours.
The two components of Puppy-ality:

Occasionally, we get the comments like "These are animals needing homes, so why does it cost to adopt one?" While these animals are homeless, we don't just get an animal in the shelter and put it right on the adoption floor. The Kearney Area Humane Society wants to make sure the felines adopted from this facility are healthy, happy and behaviorally sound before they go to their new home. Our adoption fees help to pay for feeding, housing, medical care and evaluation for the cats and kittens that come through our door each day. We do our best to keep adoption costs at a realistic level and still generate income to support our animals and programs.

Some of the animals in our shelter are V.I.P.’s — dogs and cats that are in high demand for adoption and quickly find a loving home. V.I.P.’s have a higher adoption fee. The extra money will leave a financial legacy for other animals who may need extensive medical care or more time to find a loving home.
